Under the guidance of the late Austin Major, the East Anglian group of the Association of 16mm Narrow Gauge modellers went about the construction of a portable layout.
The aim of the layout was to attend various model railway and steam events to promote the association. The layout was built to be light for ease of transportation and can be constructed in about an hour. I have helped run at a number of events since 1999, including visits to Forncett Steam Museum, Bressingham Model Railway Day, Sudbury Steam Festival and Harwich Model Railway Show.
Having lain unused for about 18 months, the layout now has a semi-permanent home at the Bressingham Steam Museum near Diss in Norfolk, being errected for the 2001 Model Railway Day.
The layout initially consisted of a main loop with a partial inner loop and various sidings. All the track is 32mm gauge which represents 2 foot narrow gauge in 1:19 scale. The permanent home has lead to discussions about developing the layout, details can be found on the Evolution page.
We run a mixture of live steam and battery powered locomotives, all of which are owned by the local association members. The track itself is not powered.
